Cricketers left frustrated by DPL’s reduced salaries

Although several officials relevant to Dhaka's club cricket had earlier said that players made a sacrifice in lowering their payments to make the upcoming Dhaka Premier League possible, the cricketers have criticised the issue of reduced payments that they are adjusting to.
Abahani sources claimed that players from the club accepted 20 percent reduced payment and then a further cut of at least 20 percent had to be made from their contracts in line with the cost-cutting structure being seen this DPL.
Mohammad Mithun, who signed for Abahani, making the switch from Prime Bank on the second and final day of players' transfer on Sunday, raised concerns over the quality of domestic tournaments in regards to payment issue and said that he doubts whether players are getting 30 percent of the salary compared to last year's DPL.
"Truth be told, I don't see any improvement in domestic cricket either the BPL or the DPL. It's consistently going downwards. Whatever you may say about the circumstances in the country or give excuses, at the end of the day when you have a profession, you will expect due payments. Cricket is our profession. We hope that where it ended last year, it will improve from there. But now every cricketers' salary has been reduced and that too by a big margin. As professional cricketers we do not hope for that. I will not say by how much it has been reduced personally. If you look at the overall scenario, there is doubt whether cricketers are getting 30 percent of the salary compared to last year," Mithun told reporters during the players' transfer on Sunday.
National team star Taijul Islam who signed with Mohammedan also talked about the players' plight ahead of this DPL.
"Ultimately the cricketers play for earning their income. When money is reduced from every tournament, it's very unfortunate. Not just national team players, there are players who play domestic cricket to run their families. The situation is very difficult for them. I hope this situation is eradicated soon," Taijul told the media.
Mohammedan manager Sajjadul Alam Shipon accepted that there were payment issues were present.
"Every team is going through payment problems and it will continue since the government's position is under different circumstances. There was no new government coming in so this payment problems will be there. Amidst this, we are trying to adjust however we can," he said, adding that he could not officially announce how the salary structures of the upcoming DPL will be without directions from the club.
