BCB unfazed by directors’ exits as door remains open for Mashrafe: Faruque

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) vice-president Faruque Ahmed said that the board would not ‘stop functioning’ even though two of its directors recently resigned amid the ongoing crisis faced by the Aminul Islam Bulbul-led board.

BCB is facing a crisis, with the National Sports Council forming an investigation committee to look into allegations of irregularities in the last BCB elections, held in October 2025.

Amid the issues, the resignations of two directors -- Ishtiaque Sadeque and Amzad Hussain -- have raised concerns of stagnation and internal strife.

Faruque said that BCB will continue carrying out its day-to-day activities and appeared unbothered by the resignations.

“I think this is a personal matter for each individual. We have seen the two resignation letters, and they cited purely personal reasons. If someone considers it personal, then even I might have a personal reason to step down tomorrow,” Faruque said after the Independence Day Exhibition match at Mirpur’s Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium today.

“So, I don’t think this reflects too heavily on the board. As you know, we have 25 directors. It would have been better if everyone stayed, but even if they don’t, I don’t think the board will stop functioning. The board will continue to run as it should,” he added.

Meanwhile, Faruque also acknowledged former skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s contributions to Bangladesh cricket and said that, if there are no legal issues, Mashrafe will be able to come to the board as a director too.

Mashrafe has been out of cricketing circles since the fall of the Awami League government in August 2024, having last played in the Dhaka Premier League in April 2024.

With two BCB director positions left vacant, Faruque was asked if Mashrafe could also be involved as a director.

“I actually don’t know whether Mashrafe has any legal issues, but what he has done as a captain is known to everyone. For example, you can say a lot of things about me, but you cannot exclude me as someone who captained Bangladesh. The contribution that Mashrafe has in Bangladesh cricket is already written,” Faruque said.

“The improvement that the ODI team has made, or where it stood during his tenure – he was a big contributor there in getting the team together. From that point of view, if there are no other problems, he will be able to come to the board,” Faruque stated.
