BCB free to award BPL’s Chattogram franchise as Supreme Court stays injunction

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has regained the right to grant the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise for the Chattogram team after the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court stayed a previous injunction order that had restrained it from doing so.

SQ Sports Enterprise Ltd had earlier obtained an injunction from the High Court Division on October 27, 2025, barring the BCB from granting the Chattogram franchise rights to any entity other than SQ Sports.

In response, the BCB filed a Civil Petition for Leave to Appeal against the injunction before the Appellate Division.

Following a hearing on November 2, 2025, the Judge in Chamber of the Appellate Division passed an order staying the High Court's injunction. The hearing was attended by Barrister Aneek R. Haque, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court, along with Barrister Mahin M. Rahman and Barrister Ashiqur Rahman on behalf of the BCB, while Advocate Shishir Monir represented SQ Sports.

A legal advisor to the BCB said that the stay order means the board is now free to award the Chattogram franchise to any entity that meets the required terms and conditions.
