Jahanara allegations: BCB forms 3-member probe panel, led by Retired Justice Tariq ul Hakim
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has formed a three-member inquiry committee to look into the allegations of harassment made by former Bangladesh women's team captain Jahanara Alam regarding team management staff, the board announced the development in a press release on Saturday.
Tariq ul Hakim, Retired Justice, Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, has been named the convener of the committee, while newly appointed BCB director Rubaba Dowla and Barrister Sarowat Siraj Shukla, Senior Advocate of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, were named members of the committee.
The BCB had previously informed in a press release that the committee will submit its findings in 15 working days.
Allegations made by Jahanara have rocked the country's sporting fraternity, with many calling for an independent investigation, including former Bangladesh skippers Mashrafe Bin Mortaza, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim.
"Recently, I came across some deeply disturbing news circulating within our cricket community," wrote Mushfiqur in a Facebook post published Friday. "While I may not know both sides of the story or the full truth, I firmly believe that there is absolutely no place for any form of harassment in this world, regardless of who you are or what your gender is.
"If proven guilty, those responsible must face full accountability and punishment."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports has pledged full cooperation to ensure a fair probe, stating that the government will assist Jahanara if she seeks legal action. The ministry also emphasised that any proven misconduct will be dealt with utmost seriousness to uphold integrity in women's sports.
