Ashraful out, Bulbul in

The National Sports Council (NSC) has replaced former cricketer Mohammad Ashraful in the Dhaka Division Sports Association ad-hoc committee with current BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul.

Formed under section 2(15) of the National Sports Council Act 2018, the NSC had included Ashraful in an 11-member committee as a member on July 8. The committee had also included former cricketer Roquibul Hassan as a member.

As per NSC directive issued on September 8, Bulbul has been named as a member in place of Ashraful.

There was also one change in Dhaka District Sports Association ad-hoc committee. Umpire Shathira Jakir Jessy had been appointed a member alongside former national player Javed Omar Belim in a previous directive in August.

The NSC has now replaced Jessy with incumbent BCB director Nazmul Abedeen Fahim in a directive on September 8.

Other members in the Dhaka District ad-hoc committee such as hockey organiser Yusuf Ali, archery organiser Anisur Rahman, sports organiser Tarek Ahmed Adel, students' representative Fardeen Hasan, and sports journalist Arifur Rahman have remained in their respective roles.

Following the fall of the Awami League government in August last year, NSC appointed Faruque Ahmed and Fahim as directors through the NSC quota, replacing incumbent directors Jalal Yunus and Sajjadul Alam. Later Faruque was elected as BCB president.

Nine months into his role as BCB president, the NSC cancelled Faruque's nomination under the NSC quota after eight BCB directors issued a letter to the Ministry of Sports, expressing no-confidence on the BCB boss.

NSC then nominated Bulbul as a councillor before he was elected as a director in place of Faruque and then the incumbent board of directors elected Bulbul as president on May 30.
