Abahani win, Mohammedan stumble in rain-hit encounters

Persistent rain may have disrupted the flow of the opening round of the Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League (DPL) 2024–25 Super League, but it couldn't stop the action entirely, as all three matches produced decisive results today.
Abahani Limited, Legends of Rupganj, and Gulshan Cricket Club emerged victorious in their respective rain-curtailed encounters.
At BKSP-3, Agrani Bank reached 109 for 3 in 25 overs before rain halted play. A revised target of 157 runs in 22 overs was set for Abahani under the DLS method.
Jishan Alam's blistering 46 off 27 balls laid the foundation, while Shamsul Islam (25*), and Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby (20*) added finishing touches to guide Abahani to a four-wicket win in 19.2 overs.
With this outcome, Abahani moved to the top of the table with 20 points.
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mohammedan struggled without many of their key players in their opening Super League fixture.
They managed just 117 for 7 in 29.4 overs before rain intervened. Tanvir Islam was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 37.
Chasing a revised target of 93 in 22 overs, Rupganj cruised to victory in just 13.2 overs, thanks to unbeaten knocks from Saif Hassan (55*) and Soumya Sarkar (36*).
The defeat pushed Mohammedan to second place.
At BKSP-4, Gulshan Cricket Club clinched a thrilling three-wicket win over Gazi Group Cricketers.
Set a revised target of 162 runs in 22 overs, Gulshan held their nerve in a last-over chase.
Naeem Islam starred with an unbeaten 56 off 33 balls, guiding his side home with just two balls to spare.
Earlier, Gazi Group had reached 110 for 3 in 23.3 overs before rain interrupted play. Gulshan's win lifted them to third place in the standings with 17 points.
