50 fours, 22 sixes, 404: a ‘dreamy’ day for Mustakim

Cambrian School and College's Mustakim Howlader hit an unbeaten 404, amassing 50 fours and 22 sixes on the way, and his batting partner, Saad Parves, managed 256 in what was a dreamlike day for the kids in the Prime Bank School Cricket tournament yesterday.
Cambrian managed to bowl St. Gregory's out for just 32 to pick up a 738-run win at Dhaka University Ground. In Bangladesh's recognised cricket, no other team has reached 700 or had a batter score 400 runs.
Mustakim's favourite cricketer is Shakib Al Hasan, and when asked if the number of runs and the feats achieved were dreamlike, he replied, "Yes."
Mustakim has appeared in U-18 divisional cricket and is featuring for Tejkunipara Cricket Club in the ongoing Dhaka Third Division Qualifying Cricket League.
"I had the confidence to do something today. I was trying to connect the deliveries properly, and when I started doing that, I felt I could do it," Mustakim, who appeared at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, told reporters yesterday.
"I try to bat aggressively in practice. My coach always says, whatever you hit, hit it hard. Cricket has become more modern, and I am trying to match that tempo," he said.
He and his partner, Saad Parves, who struck an unbeaten 124-ball 256, notched a 699-run stand for the fourth-wicket.
Talking about the discussions with his batting partner, Mustakim said: "I have been playing with him [Saad] since childhood. He helped me a lot. When there were fewer overs at the end, he let me get the strike so I could score more. So, I have to thank him," he added.
