Joyous Tigers belt out team song

ROARING TIGERS: Mahmudullah Riyad lets out a roar after his unbeaten 102, in concert with Shakib Al Hasan's 114, delivered victory from a near hopeless position in Friday's do-or-die Champions Trophy encounter against New Zealand at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff. Photo: Reuters

When Bangladesh win, and especially when the victory is as seminal as the win over New Zealand on Friday, there is dancing on the streets in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country, but as the architects of the event it is the team who must be most overjoyed. Although we can see glimpses of that on the television screen, such as Mashrafe's prolonged and primal roar on the Sophia Gardens balcony after Mosaddek Hossain's edge to the third man boundary brought a win seemingly impossible only an hour and a half ago, we are rarely privy to the celebrations that take place in the dressing room.

Through his Facebook page, fast bowler Taskin Ahmed provided that sneak peek with a video of them singing the team song in the dressing room after the famous win over New Zealand on Friday. It turns out that Taskin has a sense of occasion, and he posted the phone-shot video only after England beat Australia in Saturday's last Group A game, thus ensuring that Friday's win was not in vain and Bangladesh would play their first Champions Trophy semifinal

The video is a supporters' delight as it shows the team culture behind the scenes, while also showing the bubblier side of the usually intense Mushfiqur Rahim. After the 'Amra Korbo Joy' rendition was completed, Mushfiqur stepped into the centre of the circle and led the team in a chorus of cheers for the performers of the match. First came Mosaddek Hossain, for the winning runs and more importantly his three wickets that stopped the New Zealand innings in its tracks. Then Mushfiqur raised a roar for the rest of the bowlers who limited New Zealand to just 86 runs in the last 20 overs. The last and loudest roar was for the pair of batsmen -- Shakib Al Hasan and Mahmudullah Riyad -- who conjured a miracle with their 224-run partnership after coming together at 33 for four in chase of 266.
