Tamim becomes first Bangladeshi to reach 5000 runs

Opener Tamim Iqbal has become the first Bangladeshi to score 5000 ODI runs. And the most befitting aspect of the episode was that the dashing opener reached the landmark in his hometown during the third and final ODI, currently being played at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong. 

He reached the mark with a pull over mid-wicket off Chris Woakes that took him to 41 in the 22nd over.

The left-hander hreached the mark in 158 innings and in the process has scored seven hundreds and 33 half-centuries in his ten-year-old career. Some of the public statements that the left-hander had made with regards to his career in the recent past would suggest that Tamim has just reached halfway mark of his career goal. 

The 27-year-old hopes to play for at least six more years and score a minimum of 10,000 runs. 

A bulk of his runs has come against Zimbabwe, Pakistan and India. He has scored 1214 runs against Zimbabwe, 676 against Pakistan and 504 against India. He has posted two hundreds against Pakistan and one each against Afghanistan, England, Ireland, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. 

Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, at the moment, are the second and third highest run-getters. They are also the only other players, aside from Tamim to have scored more than 4000 ODI runs.
