Fizz dismisses Conway as NZ lose their top three

Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman got in on the act of picking up a wicket as he dismissed New Zealand Devon Conway after his fellow pacers Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana sent back Will Young and Kane Williamson, respectively, in an ICC Champions Trophy group-stage fixture between the sides at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Monday.
After 16 overs, the Black Caps were 74-3.
After the loss of Young and Williamson within the first four overs which reduced the Black Caps to 2-15, a flurry of boundaries from the bat of Conway and Rachin Ravindra followed which helped brush aside the early jitters as the duo put together 57-run stand which was broken in the 16th over when Conway got bowled. The left-handed batter, who put away six fours for his 45-ball 30, could consider himself a bit unlucky as his the ball skewed off his bat, hit the ground, ricocheted off the ground to hit his bat again and finally rolled onto the stumps to send him packing.
Taskin, Nahid send back New Zealand openers
Bangladesh's new-ball bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Nahid Rana struck a double blow to send back New Zealand's openers back in the hut early.
Taskin got rid of Will Young, the first centurion of this Champions Trophy, broke through the defences of Young during a wicket-maiden first over.
Nahid then had the team's best batter -- Kane Williamson -- caught behind with a ferocious delivery -- the speedgun recording it at 148.9kph in the fourth over to reduce the Black Caps to 2-15.
A flurry of boundaries from the bat of Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra followed which helped brush aside the early jitters as the Black Caps scored 54 for the loss two in the Powerplay. Conway put away six fours for his unbeaten 29-ball 26, while Ravindra was not out on 23 off 21 balls having smashed five fours.
Bangladesh Report
Bangladesh skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto top-scored with a 110-ball 77 and Jaker Ali stepped in with a crucial knock towards the end but an overall dismal display saw Bangladesh post 136-9 in their second ICC Champions Trophy group-stage fixture against New Zealand at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Monday.
Shanto continued to hold the fort alongside Jaker Ali (55-ball 45) as the pair steadied the ship for Bangladesh after they lost a flurry of wickets.
But the skipper's stay at the crease was ended, courtesy of a brilliant running catch from Michael Bracewell, who put an end to his knock that guided Bangladesh from the front.
Rishad Hossain, who struck 26 off 25 balls and looked set to take Bangladesh to a competitive score fell next, courtesy another simple catch for Santner off Matt Henry.
New Zealand's brilliant catching prowess was once again on display as Williamson latched onto another superb grab to get rid of Towhid Hridoy, giving Bracewell his second of the game. Following which, Rachin Ravindra caught another one to scalp Mushfiqur Rahim's wicket in Bracewell's very next over.
Mahmuddulah was the next batter to fall prey to New Zealand's brilliance on the field, as O'Rourke's safe hands landed Bracewell's fourth of the game in the form of Mahmudullah.
Dot balls had a lot to do with a few of the dismissals, particularly with how in-form Hridoy departed. The right-handed batter, who scored a century in his last match, chewed up 24 balls for his seven runs which jeopardised the momentum the Tigers managed to gather in the Powerplay. The Tigers played a total of 178 dot balls in their innings, a stat which portrays the discomforting state they put themselves in by failing to rotate the strike and how they looked to hit their way out of trouble.

Shanto kept going, notching up his 10th ODI half-century to keep Bangladesh's scorecard ticking from one end.
Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Shanto took Bangladesh off to a strong start, rotating the strike and punching the good balls to the boundary.
Just when the Bangladesh openers looked set to complete a 50-run stand, Michel Bracewell made an impact off his very second ball of the game to send Tanzid (24 off 24) back to the dugout in the ninth over, with Kane Williamson grabbing a neat one.
Will O'Rourke gave New Zealand's second breakthrough of the game, dismissing Mehedi Hasan Miraz, who had smashed two glorious boundaries in his short stay at the crease as skipper Mitchell Santner displayed his safe hands this time at mid-on.
Shanto departs after scoring 77, Tigers in risk of getting bundled out cheaply
Bangladesh were in risk on getting bundled out cheaply after skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto got dismissed, leaving the Tigers six down for six down for 165 after 38 overs in their second ICC Champions Trophy group-stage fixture against New Zealand at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Monday.
Shanto, who put away nine fours for his 110-ball 77, held his end firmly and played through innings right until Will O'Rourke's eighth over. The right-arm fast bowler pitched it short and Shanto looked to go for a big one but ended up top-edging it.
Shanto's dismissal exposed Bangladesh's tail as Rishad Hossain came to the crease to join Jaker Ali, who remained unbeaten 20 off 35 balls.
Tigers lose half their side as Mushfiqur, Mahmudullah throw wickets away
Bangladesh's most experienced duo Mushfiqur Rahim and Mahmudullah Riayd joined the bandwagon of gifting their wickets to New Zealand off-spinner Michael Bracewell as the Tigers lost half their side for just 119 runs on the board after 27 overs in an ICC Champions Trophy group-stage fixture between the sides at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Monday.
Mushfiqur's horrid run in the format in which he has scored one half-century in his last 14 innings continued. The right-handed batter Rahim (two off five balls), known as Mr. Dependable, failed to clear the ropes and was caught at deep midwicket in the 23rd over when he slogged a full-length delivery that was there to be hit. His brother-in-law followed suit three overs later as he came down the wicket with a wild swing but conceded a leading edge that scooped up. This gave Bracewell his fourth wicket of the innings.
Meanwhile, skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto put a stop to his recent slide as he notched up his 10th ODI fifty to keep the Bangladesh innings afloat. He was joined by in-form wicketkeeper-batter Jaker Ali Anik after the dismissal of Mahmudullah.
In-form Hridoy throws his wicket away after 24-ball 7
Bangladesh's in-form middle-order batter Towhid Hridoy threw his wicket away after chewing up 24 balls to score just seven runs as the Tigers got reduced to three down for 99 after 21 overs in their second ICC Champions Trophy group-stage fixture against New Zealand at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Monday.
Hridoy came into this match on the back of a century which he scored against India in Bangladesh's first group-stage fixture in Dubai on Thursday but put Bangladesh's momentum in jeopardy after the Tigers managed to find a solid footing in the Powerplay against the Black Caps.
The right-handed batter gave his wicket away to New Zealand off-spinner Michael Bracewell in the 21st over. The ball was tossed up and pitched outside off. Hridoy backed off and tried to hit it over the off side but could only manage to slice it to Kane Williamson at cover.
Tanzid, Miraz depart after Tigers find solid footing in Powerplay
Tanzid Tamim and Mehedi Hasan Miraz departed in quick succession after Bangladesh got off to a solid start in the Powerplay in their second ICC Champions Trophy group-stage fixture against New Zealand at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Monday.
Having lost just one wicket for 58 runs on the board in the Powerplay, the Tigers managed to motor to 78-1 after 15 overs.
Tanzid was the first to depart. The left-handed opener smashed two sixes and a four for his run-a-ball 24 and put together a 45-run stand with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto before getting caught at a wide short midwicket in the ninth over.
Miraz hit one four and a six and looked good for his 14-ball 13 but succumbed to a soft dismissal in the 12th over to give pacer Will O'Rourke his first wicket. The right-handed batter tried to chip a full-ish delivery over the leg side but ended up spooning it tamely to Mitchell Santner at mid-on.
Tanzid departs after Tigers find solid footing in Powerplay
Bangladesh opener Tanzid Tamim departed for a run-a-ball 24 after providing the Tigers a solid start in their second ICC Champions Trophy group-stage fixture against New Zealand at the Rawalpindi Stadium on Monday.
After 10 overs, the Tigers were one down for 58.
Tanzid along with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who promoted himself up the order, put together a 45-run stand before the former departed in the ninth over when he tried to heave off-spinner Michael Bracewell across the line. He was caught at a wider short midwicket where an alert Kane Williamson was stationed.
Mehedi Hasan Miraz came in at three to join Shanto who remained unbeaten on 22 runs off 28 balls.
Riyad, Rana come in as Bangladesh sent to bat first
Mahmudullah Riyad and Nahid Rana come in in place of Soumya Sarkar and Tanzim Sakib, as Bangladesh lost the toss and were sent to bat first against New Zealand in their crucial second Group A match of the ICC Champions Trophy at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium today.
Mahmudullah missed the first match against India owing to a calf injury and the experienced all-rounder has been brought in for the New Zealand game to strengthen the batting order.
Speedster Rana, meanwhile, will be playing his first match at a major ICC event for the senior team as Bangladesh is banking on his extra pace to test the solid Kiwi batting line-up.
Soumya, who went for a duck in the previous game, and Tanzim, who conceded 58 off 8.3 overs, made way for them.
In Soumya's absence, Mehedi Hasan Miraz is likely to open the innings alongside Tanzid Tamim.
New Zealand have also made a couple of changes as Kyle Jamieson comes in for Nathan Smith and Rachin Ravindra replaces an unwell Daryl Mitchell.
The Tigers lost their opening game against India by six wickets and a defeat today would end their hopes of making it to the semifinals.
Meanwhile, if New Zealand win today, both them and India would qualify for the semifinals from Group A.
