Pakistan on top after day two

Pakistan ended day two of the second test match on the driver's seat as Bangladesh trail by 450 runs with five wickets remaining in the first innings.

Riding on Azhar Ali's maiden double ton and Asad Shafiq's hundred, Pakistan declared their first innings on 557 runs just before the tea-break.

Pakistan bowlers came back after their listless performance at Khulna by bowling sharp and at the right areas to trouble all the Bangladeshi batsmen. Junaid Khan and Yasir Shah claimed two wickets each to leave Bangladesh reeling.

The last over of the day saw the demise of Mushfiqur Rahim as he was beaten all ends up by a brilliant googly from Yasir Shah. Mushfiq lasted 24 balls, scored 12 runs and smashed three boundaries during his brief stay at the wicket.

After being hammered for two boundaries in the over, Pakistan's Wahab Riaz got his revenge by sending back Mahmudullah for 28 runs.

A quicker bouncer from Wahab came in sharply and there was not much room for Mahmudullah to react. He tried to evade but got a leading edge which ballooned to short-leg for an easy catch.

As the pitch began assisting the spinners, Yasir Shah of Pakistan came to the fore with the wicket of Imrul Kayes in his first over.

Yasir's tossed up delivery around length on middle stump enticed Imrul to go for a booming drive, but the ball turned a long way and crashed on to the leg stump. Imrul scored 32 runs from 46 balls with six boundaries to his name.

Bangladesh lost their second wicket when Junaid struck in his fifth over and sent back Mominul Haque for 13 runs. Mominul chased a ball outside the off stump and nicked the delivery to keeper Sarfraz Ahmed.

After Pakistan declared their first innings at 557/8, Bangladesh's response was rocked early when Junaid Khan removed the in-form Tamim Iqbal for 4 runs in his first over.

Junaid's back of length ball swung in sharply from outside off and struck Tamim just above the knee-roll on the front foot in front of middle and leg.

Tamim went for the review but as the ball was clipping the leg stump, on-field umpire's call was upheld and he had to go back to the pavilion.

Earlier, Pakistan's lower order lost wickets in a hurry, after Taijul Islam sent back Wahab Riaz and Yasir Shah in his 51 st over.

Yasir was lbw for naught to a ball that kept low and struck him in front of the leg stump. Wahab was taken down the ground by Imrul Kayes after his slog against the turn failed to clear the fielder.

Shortly after sending back Azhar, Shuvagata got the prized wicket of Asad Shafiq when the Pakistan batsman holed out at long-off after scoring 107 runs.

Having scored his sixth test ton, Asad was looking for some quick runs when he was dismissed by the Bangladeshi spinner. Asad played 167 balls and struck nine 4s and one six in his knock.

A splendid innings of 226 runs from Azhar Ali came to an end when he was dismissed by Shuvagata Hom against the run of play during the second session of the test match.

Azhar danced down the wicket to a length delivery outside off, couldn't take it on the full, got the toe end of the bat and was caught at long-off by Mahmudullah. After reaching his maiden double ton, Azhar went on the offensive and lost his wicket in the process.

Pakistan's ODI captain faced 428 balls in his innings, hammered 20 4s and two 6s along the way. His partnership of 207 runs for the fifth wicket with Asad Shafiq took Pakistan to a commanding position in their first innings of the 2nd test match.

Bangladesh allrounder Shakib Al Hasan gave his team the early breakthrough on day two when he bowled Pakistan captain Misbah ul Haq for nine runs.

A length ball from Shakib pitched on leg stump as Misbah came down the track to block it before letting it turn. Unfortunately for Misbah, the ball did turn, beat the outside edge and rattled the leg stump.
