The cars that made us

For me it was my cousin's wedding car - a bright red W123 Merc E class that he had borrowed from a friend to take his wife home in. The year was 1998, and I got my first taste of the smell of unburnt fuel, the rattles, shakes and general awesomeness of this thing. Of course, I had no idea what it was at the time, just remember it by the distinctive round lamps inside the square headlight and that famous hood ornament. Issues of Classic Car and Road and Track lent to my by the same cousin sent me well on my way in the coming years.

Aseef Oni Ahmed

A red Toyota MR2 belonging to Samar from A&Z Motors in 1995. He used to drive it around at night in Chittagong. There was nothing else like it and I have never seen anything like that back then - so low, so fast and that MR2 sticker on the rear window.

Haseeb Chowdhury

5th gen Chevrolet Camaro. Being the JDMfanboy I am today, many will find it hard to believe that is it actually an American muscle car that got me into cars. The first transformers movie came out in 2007 when I was a wee 7 year old. Robots that turned into cars sounded super cool. If you've watched the movie you'll remember when the old Camaro transforms itself into the new one, the Camaro Concept at the time. Boom, I was hooked, which led to an insatiable hunger towards automobiles and everything around it.

Asad Moyeen

It started too young. Mainly hooked onto old Mercedes since early childhood. Son following similar footsteps.It requires a great passion. Must be in-built. And from the heart.

Imtiaz Amin Chowdhury

The family (Toyota Corolla) KE70. I loved it. Was too young to appreciate it for what it was, didn't know the technicalities either. Was kind of happy when it was replaced by a Corolla AE100, as it had more creature comforts. I still miss Big Red though. It was sold to a driver who I think used it for rental purposes in Chittagong. As much as I remember there was quite a bit of rust issues, especially the floor.

For me it was the Porsche 911, Nissan Skyline GTR and old Mercs. Only one to go.

Mashrur Mobin

Around the age of three or four I had a 1:18 die-cast JaguarXJ220. Used to just stare at it sometimes. Was obsessed, still have it. That's what got the car fever going.

Like most people here my obsession started from childhood. Love old muscle cars and anything old, but when I first started watching Leepu I became crazy about customization. Emailed him and one day he just called me up and started teaching me bodywork. Had a turbo wagon. Added a V6 engine, bodykitted it, added wheel spacers, etc. Sold it. Then I did my most controversial build - a wannabe Bentley based on a 1990 Toyota Cresta.

Ashfaque Hossain

A 1972 lime green Ford Pinto that my father bought from an American Engineer named Tony Reveli working at that time with Petrobangla.My father was his colleague. He sold it off later on in the 80s. Sadly, I don't have pictures of it.

Nabil Rashid

Family was always buying cars and we had a BMW E30 and a Benz W124 at the same time back in 1999.

We kept the W124 until 2012 and I gotto drive it. Then it got scrapped.
