Priyanka visits Rohingya refugee camps in Teknaf
Famous Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra, also the Unicef goodwill ambassador for child rights, today visited three Rohingya refugee camps in Teknaf upazila of Cox's Bazar.
Starting around 8:00am, Priyanka first visited the camp set up at Hariyakhali Anchor point under Sabrang union of Teknaf upazila, said Afjurul Haque Tutul, additional police superintendent of Cox's Bazar.
Hariyakhali is the entrance point from which these refugees entered Bangladesh from Myanmar, he added.From Hariyakhali, Priyanka went to Ledha, one of the biggest Rohingya refugee camps in Teknaf, where she visited a child development centre established by Unicef.
Lastly, she visited the camp in Unchiprang area, where around 30,000 Rohingya people are currently staying, the ASP added.
Wrapping up her today's programme, she around 11:30am returned to Royal Tulip hotel, where she has been staying since yesterday.
Priyanka will visit other Rohingya refugee camps on Wednesday as well and is scheduled to return Dhaka on Thursday, according to the police official.
Amid huge security measures, the high profiled Bollywood film star landed at the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka yesterday.
Around 700,000 Rohingyas have fled violence in the Rakhine state of Myanmar and arrived in Cox's Bazar since August 2017, according to the UN.
