Salahuddin ill, BNP for treatment in Singapore

BNP leader Salahuddin Ahmed is physically ill, what is keeping Meghalaya police from producing him at court for breaching foreigners’ act.

Meanwhile, BNP has urged authorities concerned in Meghalaya to transfer Salahuddin to Singapore for treatment.

Salahuddin is at civil hospital since Tuesday after his arrest and is yet to be produced at court for illness. Local police said they could not quiz him because of this reason.

Abdul Latif Jony, an assistant office secretary of BNP who visited Salahuddin on Friday for the second time, told The Daily Star that he will appeal to Indian government for treatment in Singapore’s Mount Elizabeth Hospital.

Jony said Salahuddin have told him that he could not sleep for the last nights due to increasing of his ailments.

“He has also developed acute skin diseases in one of his led due to staying of unhealthy and almost in dark and small room for the last two months,” Jony quoted Salahuddin as saying. 

“Besides, he [Salahuddin] has told the hospital doctor that he could not also eat,” Jony added.

Besides, Meghalaya police also could not interrogate him due to his physical condition, Vivek Siyem, superintendent of police (city) of West City Hills, Meghalaya told The Daily Star.

Ghyasuddin Ahmed, elder brother of Salahuddin hoped that Hasina Ahmed, wife of the BNP joint secretary general and three of his relatives might leave Dhaka for Shillong tomorrow if they get India visa. 

Ghyasuddin said his brother’s treatment, case proceedings, bringing him back to Dhaka and other respective issues will be fixed finally after Salahuddin’s wife reach in Shillong.
