Manna stable, says medical board

The health condition of Nagorik Oikya Convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna is stable, says head of the medical board formed to examine him.

The Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) authority today formed the six-member medical board for Manna who was taken to the hospital after he complained chest pain yesterday.

Abdul Wadud Chowdhury, head of Cardiology department of DMCH, has been made the head of the board.

The doctors examined Manna, who was on a 10-day remand in a sedition case, at the Coronary Care Unit of the hospital and his health condition is stable, said Abdul Wadud.

Members of Detective Branch (DB) of police took Manna to the DMCH from DB headquarters around 10:50pm last night, Inspector Mozammel Haque, in-charge of DMCH police camp, told The Daily Star.

In a separate development, Nagorik Oikya leaders today said Manna would contest the upcoming polls to the Dhaka City Corporation.

“Wherever he is, in or outside the prison, will run in the polls,” said SM Akram, advisor to the Nagorik Oikya, while speaking at a rally at National Press Club.

The organisation arranged the rally demanding Manna’s release.  

Manna was arrested on February 24, a day after the leak of his controversial telephone conversation with BNP leader Sadek Hossain Khoka, who is now in the USA for treatment.

In the conversation, Manna was heard talking to Khoka about strengthening the anti-government movement, among other issues.
