Manna denied bail again
A Dhaka court today again rejected a bail petition of Nagorik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna in a case filed on charge of trying to instigate revolt by the armed forces.
Metropolitan Sessions Judge Kamrul Hossain Mollah passed the order after Manna’s lawyer filed a bail petition against a lower court verdict that had rejected his bail prayer on March 8.
Manna was arrested on February 24, a day after the leak of his controversial telephone conversation with BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka, now in the USA for treatment. The next day Manna was placed on a 10-day remand.
The same day, Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court of Dhaka rejected his bail petition. He was placed on a 10-day remand by the court the same day.
In the conversation, Manna, also a former organising secretary of the Awami League, was heard talking to Khoka about strengthening the anti-government movement, among other issues.
He along with Khoka was sued in another case filed with Gulshan Police Station on March 5 filed for sedition.
