Left-leaning parties demand quota reform in govt jobs
Rejecting the decision of scrapping quota system in government service recruitment, left-leaning political parties today demanded rational reformation of it.
The leaders of Pragatisheel ChhatraJote, an alliance of left-leaning student organisations, came up with the demand at a press conference at Madhur canteen on Dhaka University campus today.
Their other demands include:
-- Punishment of the policemen and the Chhatra League men, who allegedly attacked students demonstrating for quota reform on April 8.
-- Withdrawal of the cases against the quota reform demonstrators
-- Removal of DU Kabi Sufia Kamal Hall provost for allegedly driving out some female students of the hall late Thursday night.
Meanwhile, the Dhaka University Teachers Association (DUTA) in another press conference today termed the demonstration for quota reform “logical”.
The teachers also alleged that a quarter of the people are spreading “rumours” to cover-up the culprits who vandalised the residence of DU vice chancellor and torched three cars inside the compound on April 8.
