Khaleda again seeks bail on health grounds
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia has once again sought bail on health grounds in Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
She submitted the petition to the High Court today through Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon.
Advocate Sagir said Khaleda's health condition has been worsening since December 12, the day the Appellate Division turned down her earlier bail plea on health grounds.
According to the petition, Khaleda, who is seriously ill now, cannot walk, take food and or even medicine without help of others.
On August 8, 2011, the Anti-Corruption Commission filed the case with Tejgaon police against four people, including Khaleda. All of them were accused of abusing power in raising funds for the trust from unknown sources.
A special court jailed Khaleda and three others for seven years on October 29, 2018. Khaleda later moved to the High Court for bail.
A six-member bench led by Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain has meanwhile asked the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University to provide the BNP chief with advanced treatment immediately.
Khaleda has been in jail since February 8, 2018 after she was sentenced to five years' imprisonment in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
