Khaleda’s verdict: Over 700 BNP men get HC bail
The High Court today granted anticipatory bail to more than 700 BNP leaders and activists of Comilla, Netrokana, Mymensingh and Sonargaon of Narayanganj district in 22 criminal cases.
The cases were filed on February 3, 7, 8 and 9 over the incidents centering the delivery of judgment by a Dhaka court in Zia Orphanage Trust Corruption case against BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on February 8.
Today, the HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice Shahidul Karim granted anticipatory bail to 639 BNP leaders and activists of Comilla, Netrokona and Mymensingh for six weeks in connection with 19 cases.
The bench also asked them to surrender before the lower courts concerned after the six weeks.
The bench passed the order after hearing 59 petitions filed by 639 BNP leaders and activists seeking bail in the cases. They also appeared before the HC bench for bail.
Meanwhile, another HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Akram Hossain Chowdhury granted bail to 75 BNP men in three cases till April 10 and asked them to surrender before the lower court after the period expires.The 75 BNP men appeared before the HC bench with separate bail petition in connection with the three cases against them.
