JCD chief shifted to Dhaka jail
Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Rajib Ahsan was shifted to Dhaka Central Jail from Patuakhali today.
Amid tight security, a prison van carrying the JCD chief started from Patuakhali jail around 8:00am for Dhaka, Nazrul Islam, superintendent of Patuakhali jail, told The Daily Star.
Asked, he said Rajib was sent to Dhaka Central Jail as he is scheduled to appear before a court in the capital in a case on July 29, reports our Patuakhali correspondent.
Rajib is also accused in at least 23 cases filed with different police stations in Dhaka.
Rajib and his five associates were arrested by Patuakhali police on July 19 from Lebukhali ferry ghat on Barisal-Kuakata highway on their way to Kuakata from Mehendiganj, Barisal by a private car.
Police claimed Rajib and others were carrying 45 pieces of Yaba tablets and a bottle of whisky, the allegation outright rejected by BNP including its chairperson Khaleda Zia terming it a stage-managed drama to arrest the JCD boss.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate Court of Patuakhali on July 20 sent the JCD chief and five others to jail rejecting their bail prayers.
