HC bail for BNP’s Rafiqul in 7 cases
The High Court today granted four-week anticipatory bail to BNP leader Rafiqul Islam Mia in seven criminal cases.
The cases were filed with Mirpur and Pallabi police stations under explosives and special power acts on different days during hartal and blockades enforced by BNP-led 20-party alliance after January 5.
The HC bench of Justice Md Rezaul Haque and Justice Md Khasruzzaman passed the orders after hearing seven bail petitions filed by Rafiqul Islam Mia, a standing committee member of BNP.
Rafiqul, who has not been seen in public for a few months, appeared before the court today for bail hearing in the cases.
Deputy Attorney General Fazlur Rahman Khan told The Daily Star that they will appeal to the Supreme Court against the HC bail orders.
Former attorney general AJ Mohammad Ali appeared for the accused BNP leader.
