GCC polls held in free, fair manner: EC
Election Commission has claimed that the much-hyped Gazipur City Corporation election was held in a free, fair and credible manner.
Election Commission Acting Secretary Helal Uddin Ahmed came up with the remark while addressing a post-polls press conference at the commission office in Dhaka this evening.
"Free and fair election was held at 416 centres in a festive mode while voting of nine centres out of total 425 was suspended based on allegation of irregularities," he said adding that except the nine centres, no irregularities took place in the election.
Prior to the Gazipur election, the Election Commission has instructed all concerned people to stop the voting soon after allegation of irregularities are found, the EC secretary said.
"And thus, we did not tolerate any irregularities. Presiding officers in line with the directives of the Election Commission stopped voting of the nine centres," he said.
Some videos over irregularities in the election were published in different social media.
Responding to a query in this regard, the EC secretary said these are not trustworthy news.
"Internal feud among the councillor candidates has caused the irregularities that forced us to stop voting of the nine centres," Helal said.
