Extremism may rise ‘in absence of democracy’: Ripon

Extremism may rise in the country what he said in absence of democracy and rule of law, BNP spokesperson Asaduzzaman Ripon said today.

“There is no political activity in the country. Rule of law as well as democracy are also absent at present. We are concerned that extremism may grow at the prevailing situation,” said Ripon.

He was speaking at a “doa-mahfil” at the BNP’s Nayapaltan central office praying for salvation of the departed soul of publisher and owner of Jagriti Faisal Arefin Dipan, who was also vice-president of Zia Memorial Library.

Ripon, also an international affairs secretary of BNP called upon the government to work with all political parties to tackle the present crisis.

Pointing to the recent killing of policemen and a publisher, Ripon urged the government to realise the truth instead of blaming the opposition for the gruesome incidents.

“People are in panic and they fear the present insecure situation of the country,” said Ripon.   

Ripon said that Dipan believed in the ideology of Ziaur Rahman although he was not directly involved in the party activities.
