Mahi B Chowdhury, the Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh-backed mayoral candidate for Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) polls, was injured when unknown miscreants attacked his car in Tejgaon area of Dhaka early today.

Ashfa Haque Lopa, wife of Mahi, and driver Shahid Mandol were also injured in the attack, Chief Coordinator of Mahi’s election campaign Jahangir Alam told The Daily Star.

Jahangir said a group of people numbering eight to ten swooped on his car with sticks and hammers when he along with his wife was returning home after taking fuel from City Filling Station located beside BG press around 2:00am.

As the attackers smashed the windshield of his car, the broken pieces of glasses hit Mahi’s hand and eye, Jahangir said.

The driver sped up and drove the car to the United Hospital, he added.

After receiving treatment at the hospital, Mahi, also son of former president AQM Badruddoza Chowdhury, returned home around 8:00am.

Meanwhile, a general dairy has been filed in this connection with Tejgaon Police Station around 6:00am today, Jahangir said.

Mahi will continue his electioneering today despite the attack, the chief coordinator said adding that there was no question to quit electoral race.
