BNP’s Khokon secures bail in 7 cases

The High Court today granted ad-interim bail to BNP leader Khairul Kabir Khokon for next six months in seven separate criminal cases filed between 2007 and 2015.

The court also issued seven rules asking the government to explain why Khairul, a joint secretary general of BNP, should not be granted regular bail in the cases.

The bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice ANM Bashir Ullah came up with the orders and rules following seven separate petitions filed by Khairul seeking bail in the cases.

Khairul’s lawyer Advocate Zainul Abedin told The Daily Star that his client would not get released from jail following the HC orders of bail, as he is shown arrested in three other cases.

Advocate Sagir Hossain Leon, another lawyer for Khairul, said among the seven cases against his client, two were filed with Gulshan and Kafrul Police Stations in Dhaka in 2007 on charge of extortion, and four were filed with Paltan Police Station and another was filed with Narsingdi Police Station in 2015 on charges of arson and vandalism.     

On May 4, a Dhaka court sent Khairul, a former general secretary of Dhaka University Central Students Uninon, to jail after he surrendered before it seeking bail in connection with 10 cases.
