Khaleda not taken to hospital, for now
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia will not be taken to a hospital for now, according to what prison authorities said today.
Khaleda was supposed to be taken to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) today, but the schedule has been cancelled as she refused.
She wants to be taken to United Hospitals Ltd in Dhaka, Inspector General (IG) of Prisons Brig Gen Syed Iftekhar Uddin told The Daily Star this morning.
Yesterday, he made it clear that taking Khaleda to a hospital of her choice is not up to him, and that such an arrangement is only possible if the government agrees to it.
Khaleda’s health condition shared a major focus on the country’s political stage since she landed in prison on February 8, convicted in Zia Orphanage Trust corruption case.
She has been kept from hearings in Zia Charitable Trust corruption case, for what the jail authorities said physical illness before the court as reason for her absence.
In the latest, discussions gained heat after some doctors said she suffered a mild stroke. The government said her blood pressure dropped in prison.
