Attacks on minority an ominous sign: BNP

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today blamed the government for its failure to ensure communal harmony and security of people saying the trend of attacks on minorities is an ominous sign for the country.

“Bangladesh is a country of communal harmony. Its people don’t believe in confrontation over religious affairs. But the trend of attacks on religious minority has been going up since Awami League assumed power. It is an ominous sign,” Fakhrul said.

The BNP leader came up with the remarks in a statement protesting yesterday’s attack on Hindu people at Horkoli Thakurpara village in Rangpur over an alleged Facebook post that left one killed and 20 others injured.

Fakhrul alleged that the incidents like attacks on religious minorities, setting fire on houses and business establishments and grabbing of their land and properties “by the ruling party men” are increasing alarmingly.

The countrymen are passing their days amid a terrifying situation as the government has failed to ensure people’s overall security, the BNP leader said expressing his party’s condemnation over the Rangpur attack.

Describing the people who were involved in the attacks on the religious minority as enemy of the humanity, Fakhrul said that a strong resistance will have to be forged so that the emergence of the evil force cannot take place in the country.
