AL distorted Khaleda’s statement: Fakhrul
BNP acting Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today claimed that ruling Awami League distorted Khaleda Zia’s statement to mislead the people.
“Khaleda spoke of an election which will be held under a non-partisan body – which will not have Sheikh Hasina as its head,” Fakhrul said at a press conference.
In BNP’s sixth annual council on March 19, the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia spoke of a new government model where she spoke of “election without Sheikh Hasina”.
During a central committee meeting of the ruling Awami League, the message was interpreted as conspiracy to make the country unstable asking everyone to remain alert.
“Khaleda’s statement has been distorted,” Fakhrul told the press conference that was held at BNP’s Nayapaltan headquarters days after the party “successfully completed” its council.
Fakhrul also criticised The Daily Star over a report that the daily ran regarding several senior leaders remaining in the dark over Khaleda’s plans for a “new government model”.
“If anyone else knows more about BNP than us, it is very unfortunate,” Nazrul Islam Khan, another senior leader of the BNP, said at the press conference.
