Schoolboy’s death sparks protest in Bogra
Traffic movement on Dhaka-Rangpur highway remained suspended for one and a half hours this morning as locals put up barricade on the highway protesting death of a primary school student in a road crash in Bogra Sadar upazila.
The victim was identified as Riyad, 10, a class V student of Gokul Government Primary School in the upazila, our Bogra correspondent reports quoting Gaziur Rahman, assistant superintendent of police (sadar) of the district.
Riyad died on the spot when he was hit by a wheat-laden truck at Gokul around 9:30am, police said. He was on way to his school on his bicycle.
As the news spread, locals rushed to the spot and blocked the highway demanding compensation for the victim's family.
They withdrew the barricade around 11:00am after local administration assured them of taking legal action against the driver and helper of the truck that hit Riyad.
