Manzoor murder: CID gets 2 more months to probe
A Dhaka court today gave the Criminal Investigation Department two more months to complete further investigation in the General Manzoor murder case.
Judge SM Saiful Islam of the First Additional District and Sessions Judge's Court passed the order after Special Superintendent of CID Abdul Kahar Akhand, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a petition seeking more time for further investigation.
In his petition, Akand said he visited USA in June last year and recorded the statement of Manzoor's daughter Lubna Manzoor. But he failed to record the statement of his wife as she was sick that time.
Later, the wife's counsel had told the IO said he will be informed after her recovery but the lawyer did not communicate with Akand so far.
Jatiya Party chief HM Ershad, also special envoy to the prime minister, is the main accused in the case.
Earlier on January 8 of this year, the same court asked CID to complete the investigation by March 12, 2015.
Maj Gen Manzoor, who was commander of Sector-8 during the Liberation War, was killed at the Chittagong Cantonment on June 1, 1981, just two days into the assassination of the then president Ziaur Rahman.
His elder brother Abul Mansur Ahmed filed the murder case with Panchlaish Police Station on February 28, 1995, 14 years after his killing.
