Bangladeshi shot dead in South Africa
A Bangladeshi migrant was shot dead at his business establishment at Durban in KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa on August 5, 2022.
The victim was identified as Mintu Khan (38), who was born in Shariatpur but lived Dhaka's Uttara for a long period of time before moving to South Africa 10 years ago.
According to the sources of local Bangladeshi expatriates, an unidentified man came to his supershop to buy cigarettes when the security guard was not at the shop.
After taking the pack of cigarettes, the man took out his gun from his pocket and shot several rounds at Mintu, leaving him dead on the spot.
Bangladeshi expatriates said the exact reason as to why Mintu was killed is still unclear. They could not confirm whether Mintu was a victim of robbery or personal enmity.
The local police are investigating the matter and they have already launched operations to nab the attacker.
Mintu's supershop had a monthly turnover of about a million Rand (South African currency) which is about Tk 56.68 lakh.
