A shutterbug affair: The 4th AUW Photo Carnival
Being South Asia's first international all-women's liberal arts' university and home to students from 16 countries, international events with diversity are part of AUW's core values. Within days of the end of AUW-International Model United Nations (AUWIMUN), comes the 4th AUW Photo Carnival.
"Both attendees and participants alike can expect to find the very best contemporary photography at the Carnival—an event which is unique in itself since the organisers are not only all young women, but also members of the only university level photography club solely run by women," says Yulita Mus, Head of Promotions for the event.
"With over 60 participants, the two-day event that will be held between April 1st and 2nd, AUW Photo Carnival 2016 provides a platform for professional and amateur photographers, irrespective of age and gender from different countries," says Sanjida Afrin Kabir, President of the AUW Photography Club and the Carnival.
When talking about the difference between the AUW Photo Carnival and competitions held elsewhere, Afrida Maroof Ishti, Head of Public Relations, points out, "We did not ask the participants to pay any form of registration fees so that the event could be wholly dedicated to photography. We, as well as our judges, want to focus on the quality of photography over anything else." This year's edition of AUW Photo Carnival was distinctive in its free registration policy. This was done in order to encourage a greater influx of participation in the Carnival, especially for young photographers who have great potential, but are unable to take part in any event due to financial difficulties. Sanjida adds, "Even though we had a hard time, we wanted to sustain our mission of promoting art and not let money get in the way".
