NSU, Commercial Bank of Ceylon ink deal to expand career and industry exposure for students

North South University has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC on Monday, 12 January 2026, aimed at strengthening collaboration between academia and the banking sector and enhancing career opportunities for students.

The MoU signing ceremony was held at the NSU premises and was attended by Professor Dr Abdul Hannan Chowdhury, vice-chancellor of North South University, and Professor Naser U Ahmed, pro vice-chancellor. They highlighted the importance of strategic industry partnerships in preparing students for the evolving professional landscape and improving graduate employability.

The initiative was facilitated by Associate Professor Dr Farzana Nahid, director of NSU’s Career and Placement Center (CPC). She said the agreement would help expand internship opportunities, career seminars, professional training programmes and potential job placements for NSU students.

Representing Commercial Bank of Ceylon PLC at the ceremony were Chief Executive Officer Najith Meewanage; Deputy Chief Executive Officer Haily Algewatte; Head of Personal Banking Md Faisal Haque; Human Resources Manager Irin Parvin; and Head of Progati Sharani SME Md Jahidul Hasan Kabir.

Both parties said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to long-term cooperation, with a focus on bridging the gap between academic learning and industry requirements.
