Nepali actor Pramod Agrahari makes debut in Bangladeshi cinema
Nepali actor Pramod Agrahari is set to make his debut in Bangladeshi cinema with the upcoming film “Haangor”, directed by Tanmoy Surjo. The film, inspired by the lives of people living along the coast, is planned for release during Eid al-Fitr.
Pramod plays the central character in “Haangor”, marking his first appearance in a Bangladeshi production. He began his acting career in Nepal with the film “Uma” in 2013 and has since appeared in more than two dozen Nepali films. Although he debuted as a lead actor, Pramod later gained widespread popularity for portraying negative roles and is currently regarded as one of the most prominent villains in the Nepali film industry.
His notable films include “White Sun”, “Gangster Blues”, “Chitra”, “Adrishya”, “Pitambar” and “Agastya Chapter 1”.
Speaking about his experience, Pramod said working in Bangladesh was deeply enjoyable and expressed his desire to work regularly in Dhallywood alongside projects in Nepal.
The first-look teaser of “Haangor” was released on Thursday night, showcasing Pramod in a striking action-oriented avatar. Explaining the film’s narrative, director Tanmoy Surjo said the story highlights the struggles of coastal communities. “People living along the coast face constant obstacles. Many become trapped by powerful forces and, often unwillingly, get drawn into crime. ‘Haangor’ tells the story of those people,” he said.
Recalling how Pramod was cast, the director said he first met the actor during a visit to Nepal four to five years ago. “He came to the set where we were shooting, and I immediately felt he would be perfect for ‘Haangor’. After hearing the story, he agreed to do the film. He then took time to learn Bangla, while we prepared the project. Finally, we shot the film last year,” Surjo added.
While the makers are aiming for an Eid al-Fitr release, Surjo noted that securing theatre slots during the festive season remains a challenge due to multiple competing releases. He also confirmed plans to release the film in Nepal, something Pramod is particularly keen on.
Besides Pramod, “Haangor” also stars Tahmina Othoi, Intekhap Dinar, Dipa Khandakar, A K Azad Shetu, Shariful and Mahfuz Munna, among others.
Tanmoy Surjo has also written the screenplay for the film, which is being produced under the banner of Bigshot Creation.
