BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman said that although he was leaving Bogura today, he would return very soon and sought prayers from the people so that he could work for them.

“Let me go today. I will leave for now. I am a son of this community. I will come back again in a couple of days. How can I give time to people from outside if I stay here? So please pray for me so that I can work for everyone,” he said while speaking at a roadside rally in Bogura’s Dhunat mor of Sherpur area at around 1:00pm, as he was travelling to Sirajganj.

Tarique was travelling from Bogura to Sirajganj on a red-and-green bus, and at several points along the route, party leaders and activists gathered in front of his vehicle, chanting slogans and greeting him.

Supporters also stopped the bus at different places for photographs and raised slogans in support of the BNP and its election symbol.

Speaking through a megaphone from inside the bus, Tarique said, “I am your brother, Tarique, a son of this area. I have come to your area after many years. Many of you know that earlier, when I came here, I used to walk around and talk to people. But in the present situation, that is not possible.”

He urged voters to support the BNP-nominated candidate, saying that victory in the election would allow the party to address local problems and reduce people’s sufferings.

“Make us victorious in the election on the 12th. If we win, we will address the problems of the people of this area,” he said.

After the roadside interaction, Tarique continued his journey to Sirajganj, where he is scheduled to address an election rally at the BSCIC industrial ground at around 2:30pm.

Party leaders and activists began gathering at the Sirajganj venue since morning, waiting to hear his speech.

Earlier in the morning, Tarique Rahman spoke at an exchange meeting with BNP leaders in Bogura.

Addressing party leaders and activists, Tarique Rahman said, “Bogura is a BNP stronghold. I am handing over the responsibility of this stronghold to you. Take care of this stronghold and take care of the people of this stronghold. I am leaving this responsibility with you.”

He made the remarks around 11:00am while speaking as chief guest at an exchange meeting with leaders of his constituency, Bogura-6 (Sadar), held at the ballroom of the four-star Hotel Naz Garden in Bogura.

In his speech, Tarique Rahman told those present, “Some speakers here have

said that even without going to voters, the sheaf of paddy will win by a large margin. But I personally think this election is very important. We cannot sit idle. We have to go to everyone. We must win by a big margin in all seven seats of Bogura.”

“I have come to you many times in the past. This time, I have come as a candidate in the Bogura-6 constituency. But it is not my responsibility to run my own election, because I have to travel across the country for election campaigning.”
