Myanmar national held with gold in Teknaf
Members of Bangladesh Coast Guard have detained a Myanmar national for allegedly smuggling gold ornament weighing 8.77 bhori in Teknaf of Cox’s Bazar.
The detainee was identified as Md Isahak, 24, according to a press release of Bangladesh Coast Guard.
Tipped-off, a team of Bangladesh Coast Guard (East Zone) from CG Station conducted a special drive in Keruntali area of Teknaf around 9:00pm yesterday and detained Isahak while he was trying to smuggle the gold to Myanmar.
Process was underway to handover the detainee to Teknaf Police Station and the seized gold ornaments to Customs authorities, the release read.
Meanwhile, in a separate drive, a coast guard team recovered 2,000 pieces of yaba pills worth around Tk 10 lakh from Siren Khal area near Teknaf Land Port area this noon.
No one was arrested in this connection, the release read, adding that the recovered yaba pills will be handed over to Teknaf police.
