Any unfit vehicle will not be allowed to run on the streets of Bangladesh ahead of Eid-ul-Azha, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mohammad Javed Patwary said today.

Speaking at a press briefing at Dhaka’s Police Headquarters, he said: “Stern legal actions will be taken against those drivers without driving licences.”

The police chief also said, concerned authorities have been instructed accordingly to take strong measures to prevent incidents of capsize or overloading in water transportation system.

The district police have also been instructed to stay alert against any disorder that might occur during the Eid congregations in their respective districts.

About August 15, the IGP said there is no threat or risk regarding the day, but police have taken all the safety measures anyway.

Concerned personals have been instructed to keep eyes on areas around the places where programs will be held on the occasion, IGP added.

Asked about the current status of five Bangabandhu killers, the police chief said that there is information on two of the killers -- one of them is in Canada and the other is in US -- but the others are constantly changing locations.

The law enforcers have appealed to Interpol to help repatriate Bangabandhu killers.
