A member of a doping gang snatched Tk 5,000 and a mobile phone from a man on a Dhaka-bound launch from Pirojpur today, just days ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.

Sachin Shikder, 35, was coming to Dhaka by a launch from Mathbaria upazila of Pirozpur to attend to some work at the Supreme Court.

On the way, a man claiming to be from Barguna made familiarity with him and at one stage offered him water to drink, Sachin told The Daily Star.

After drinking the water, he gradually lost his consciousness, he said.

After getting back to his senses when the launch reached Sadarghat, he realised that he has been robbed, the victim added.

Although he was feeling drowsy, he managed to reach the Supreme Court by a bus where he fell ill and was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) frequently warns people of not eating or drinking anything offered by unknown people and to be cautious while buying medicine or food items from hawkers on a bus.

These gangs specifically become more active during the times of festivals like the Eids.
