Banglalink launches nationwide Wi-Fi Calling service
Banglalink has launched its nationwide Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) calling service, allowing customers across Bangladesh to make high-quality voice calls using Wi-Fi alongside mobile networks.
With the nationwide rollout, customers can use home or office Wi-Fi for HD voice calls, particularly in locations where mobile coverage is limited. These include high-rise buildings, densely built areas, rural communities and remote locations.
Banglalink introduced VoWiFi on a pilot basis in September 2025, becoming the first mobile operator in Bangladesh to deploy the technology. The pilot ran in selected areas of Dhaka, Chattogram and Khulna, where the service was tested and refined based on performance and customer feedback.
The VoWiFi service automatically routes calls through available Wi-Fi networks when mobile signals are weak. It works like a regular voice call and does not require app downloads or separate authentication. Calls can switch seamlessly between Wi-Fi and mobile networks.
Commenting on the launch, Taimur Rahman, Chief Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Officer of Banglalink, said, “VoWiFi is designed to address connectivity gaps and ensure reliable communication regardless of location or infrastructure. Whether in a rural community or an indoor environment in Dhaka, customers can enjoy consistent call quality. By enabling Wi Fi to function as a reliable voice channel, the service supports a seamless digital lifestyle—anytime and anywhere.”
He added that the nationwide rollout reflects collaboration among mobile operators, regulators, ISPs and technology partners, showing how shared innovation can expand digital access and improve customer experience.
Wi-Fi Calling is currently available on selected handset models in line with regulatory requirements and through selected ISP partners. Banglalink is working with device manufacturers and ISPs to expand availability in compliance with guidelines.
The launch of VoWiFi adds to Banglalink’s portfolio of digital services, including MyBL, Toffee, RYZE and enterprise solutions, as the company continues efforts to improve indoor and remote connectivity and support Bangladesh’s digital transformation.
