Unable to afford public transport: Low-income homegoers travel on trucks
Many low-income homegoers have been traveling on trucks while putting their lives in danger on the Dhaka-Aricha and Nabinagar Chandra highways since this (July 8, 2022) morning.
The passengers took decision to travel on the trucks since public vehicles were seen less on these roads in Hemayetpur, Radiocolony, C&B, and Nabinagar areas of Savar, our local correspondent reports.
Arman Ali, a RMG worker, who was onboard a truck, was going to Aricha in Maniganj from Hemayetpur. "Only two buses were available and they asked four times the usual fare, so I returned home in a truck for Tk 200."
Meanwhile, a seven-kilometre long traffic cobngestion was seen on the Dhaka-Aricha highway from Nabinagar to Dhamrai.
Also, a tailback was created from Nabinagar to Chandra on the Dhaka-Tangail highway. Abdus Salam, inspector (administration) of Dhaka North Traffic, confirmed to The Daily Star.
"We are working to normalise the traffic situation. It will be normal within half an hour," he said.
