JCD stages sit-in at Shahbagh claiming irregularities in Cucsu polls
Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has staged a sit-in at Shahbagh in the early hours of Thursday, alleging irregularities in the Chittagong University Central Students' Union election and demanding that there be no manipulations in regards to the announcement of results.
Around 11:45pm, leaders and activists of JCD's Dhaka University unit, along with different units of Dhaka Metropolitan JCD, began gathering at Shahbagh intersection. Central leaders, including JCD President Rakibul Islam Rakib, also joined the demonstration.
"Throughout the day we witnessed various irregularities and received several complaints. After the controversial Ducsu and Jucsu polls, we do not want to see another disputed election. We are holding this programme as a precaution so that no one can tamper with the results," said Nahiduzzaman Shipon, general secretary of JCD's Dhaka University unit.
He further said, "In the afternoon, a student was seen rushing towards rival candidates with a stick, and the army had to intervene to bring the situation under control. Since the number of voters in Cucsu is very limited, we fear that vote rigging might take place."
