National Citizen Party (north region) Chief Organiser Sarjis Alam today slammed some advisers of the interim government, saying those seeking a "safe exit" should remember that the only real safe exit in this world is death.

"Where will you go, taking a safe exit?... You may go anywhere in the world, but the people of Bangladesh will still hold you accountable -- whether on social media or in person," he said while speaking to journalists after attending a coordination meeting of the party's Naogaon district unit.

Sarjis made the comment days after NCP Convener Nahid Islam claimed that many advisers in the interim government have established ties with political parties and are now thinking about "safe exit".

"If anyone tries to avoid such a crucial responsibility, thinking of a safe exit, mothers of the martyred will never forgive them," Sarjis said.

"We're seeing a tendency among a few advisers to just get through their duties and leave through elections. But a post-uprising government cannot function with such a mindset. If they are afraid of threats, they should not have taken these positions," he added.

The NCP leader urged advisers to act decisively in line with the aspirations of the July uprising, urging them to take strict decisions without worrying about their positions and others' statements.

Sarjis further said no attempt to create any version of the Awami League in Bangladesh will be tolerated.

"Whom will you include to form that version -- the same Awami League ministers, MPs, district and upazila presidents, secretaries, and chairmen? You can't just turn a union-level Awami League president into the president of a new Awami League. That's not possible. All of them were beneficiaries of Awami League's privileges and are tied to its fascist structure," he said.

He also criticised the Election Commission, saying, "There's no legal bar to using the 'shapla' symbol, yet the EC is acting arbitrarily -- either on its own or under pressure. This will never be accepted. The Election Commission must function independently and uphold public trust."
