BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has accused advisers of the interim administration of attempting to create a division between the long-standing anti-government movement and the recent July-August movement.

The July-August movement was led by BNP and other pro-democracy political parties for the last 15 years, Rizvi said while delivering a keynote speech at a protest rally organised by the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal in Nayapaltan.

Referring to comments made by an adviser, Rizvi said, "One of your advisers told students that if the country continues to be run this way for the next five years, it will be much better. Does that mean elections are unnecessary?"

He urged the interim administration to work for public welfare while in power, particularly by taking steps to reduce rice prices.

"The people believe that under the leadership of Chief Adviser Dr Yunus, a free and fair election will take place," Rizvi said.

"As long as you remain in power, you must ensure an impartial election and hand over power to the people's representatives. The public deeply trusts this process. But if there is any delay, it will take a different turn," he added.

BNP Standing Committee Member Selima Rahman, the chief guest of the event, called on Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus to uphold his image as a symbol of peace by ensuring a fair election and restoring stability in the country.

"We still hear that certain groups—those who have made money and supported Hasina—are pouring in funds to hold on to power. We see enablers of that fascist government still being appointed to key positions. Why is this happening? What are you doing?" she asked.
