Nahid Islam

Amid rumours of his resignation from the advisory council of the interim government, Information Adviser Nahid Islam today said he has not resigned yet.

Around 8:09pm, Nahid confirmed the matter to The Daily Star. "No, I haven't resigned yet."

Nahid is likely to lead a party to be floated by the July uprising activists.

The party will likely be launched on February 26.

There were several media reports earlier that said Nahid would resign from the interim government and join the political party as its chief.

On February 17, after attending the Deputy Commissioners' Conference at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium, Nahid said he would make a decision regarding his resignation by the end of the week to join a new political party

Earlier on February 15, in an interview with a private TV station, Nahid said, "There are discussions about forming a new political party. If someone wishes to join, it is not possible by retaining a government role."

He said the new party is expected to be formed this month.

Nahid Islam, a coordinator of the anti-Discrimination Student Movement and student of Dhaka University, took oath as an adviser to the interim government on August 8 after the fall of Hasina govt in a mass uprising on August 5.
