Cruel mockery of the people after a ‘peaceful election’ drama: Mamunul Haque

Maulana Mamunul Haque, ameer of Bangladesh Khelafat Majlis, has alleged that after staging an “open drama of a peaceful election”, there was “a cruel mockery of the people through subtle engineering” from the evening onward on election day.

He made the remark this afternoon while speaking as chief guest at a protest rally organised by the Jamaat‑led 11‑party electoral alliance against post‑election violence, repression, and arson.

The rally was held at the north gate of Baitul Mukarram National Mosque in Paltan, Dhaka.

Mamunul said people had hoped for a fair election in the "new Bangladesh" achieved through many sacrifices, but the February 12 polls were "staged with pre‑planned results".

He claimed targeted individuals were obstructed from reaching the parliament and accused the administration of serving the “deep state”.

Addressing the chief election commissioner, he warned that unresolved objections could lead people back to the streets.

Presiding over the rally, Mia Golam Porwar, secretary general of Bangladesh Jamaat‑e‑Islami, said, “There is an attempt to deny the July Charter built with blood by crafting narratives through various talk-show intellectuals."

Addressing the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), he said, “The nation is astonished by the post-election violence. Even after winning through manipulation, you have unleashed attacks on the nation -- killings, terror, arson attacks on homes, brutal beatings, and rapes of mothers and sisters. The scenes remind us of fascists.”

At the rally, Nasiruddin Patwary, chief coordinator of the National Citizen Party (NCP); Saiful Alam Khan Milon, Jamaat central executive council member and newly elected MP from Dhaka‑12; Omar Faruk, presidium member of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP); Mojibur Rahman Monju, chairman of Amar Bangladesh Party (AB Party); and Rashed Prodhan, spokesperson of Jatiya Ganatantrik Party (Jagpa) criticised the roles of the government and Election Commission during the polls, while pointing fingers at BNP.

After the rally, a protest procession marched towards Shahbagh via the National Press Club and Matsya Bhaban.
