The bodies of two young men, who went missing after a trawler sank in the Meghna river in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila last night, have been recovered.

The deceased were identified as Roni Sardar, 20, and Md Shubho, 35 -- both from Barishal.

Their bodies were recovered through a joint effort by the Fire Service divers and the River Police from the Sonamoi area under Baidyerbazar union, said Inspector Mahbubur Rahman, in-charge of Baidyerbazar River Police Outpost.

He said the trawler had loaded cement from a factory in Sonargaon and was headed towards Barishal with three workers onboard.

"Last night, the trawler was anchored a short distance from the riverbank, and the three workers went to sleep. Around 3:30am, while they were asleep, the vessel capsized. One of the trio managed to swim ashore," he added.

However, the trawler itself has not yet been located, and the cause of the sinking remains unclear, the inspector said further.

Sonargaon Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Rashedul Islam said the bodies of the victims were handed over to their families without autopsies as no complaints were lodged in connection with the incident.
