Train movement resumes after Gazipur Digital University students call off protest

Train movement on the Dhaka-Tangail rail route, which was disrupted due to a student protest, has returned to normal this afternoon.
Abul Khair Chowdhury, master of Joydevpur Junction Railway Station, confirmed at 4:30pm that trains were running again, with the Panchagarh-bound Ekta Express departing Joydevpur station around 3:00pm.
Earlier in the day, more than one hundred students of Gazipur Digital University blocked the railway at Kaliakoir Hi-Tech Station around 8:00am. They were protesting the recent renaming of their university and demanding that it be called "Bangladesh Digital University" instead of "Gazipur Digital University."
The protesters, including Yunus Ali, Fakhrul Hasan Faisal, and Shahriar Kabir Sajib, argued that the current name does not reflect the university's national status and identity. They announced they would continue their movement until their demand was met.
Following discussions, Yunus Ali later said that the education secretary has requested 21 days to address the issue. As a result, the students have suspended their protest for now.
The university's Proctor, Rakib Hossain, confirmed that an emergency meeting was held to discuss the matter. Previously, on February 20, the "Student Forum" had submitted a memorandum to the Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC), the Information and Communication Technology Department, and the Gazipur district administration, opposing the renaming.
The university, formerly known as Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Digital University, was renamed "Gazipur Digital University" by the interim government on February 20, triggering protests, class boycotts, and examination disruptions.
While the protest has been temporarily called off, students remain firm in their demand for a name change.
