Touchstone statue of Vishnu recovered in Dinajpur, ex-UP member held

A team of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) yesterday recovered a Vishnu idol made of touchstone during a drive in Birganj upazila of Dinajpur.

Md Akkas Ali, 58, a former member of Shatagram Union Parishad was arrested in this connection, said Birganj Police Station's Officer-in-charge (OC) Md Abdul Gafur.

The height of the Vishnu idol is 66 inches, and the width is 30 inches, and the weight is 395 kilogrammes.

Acting on a tip-off, Rab-13 members along with police conducted the drive at Arjunahar village of Shatagram last night and found the idol buried behind a house.

Rab-13 filed a case with Birganj Police Station regarding the incident.
