Students postpone Shahbagh blockade

The Shahbagh blockade, scheduled for 9:30pm tonight in solidarity with protesting students at Khulna University of Engineering and Technology (Kuet), was postponed due to the absence of the expected number of participants.
The programme concluded with a brief rally following a procession through the Dhaka University campus.
Musaddiq Ali Ibne Mohammad, a student of Dhaka University's Bangla department and the key organiser of the programme, announced the postponement at the rally, citing low turnout as the reason.
Police had already taken position at the Shahbagh intersection before the rally reached the spot.
Representatives from Jagannath University, Dhaka College, and Dhaka University addressed the gathering. Around 15 protesters were present at the rally.
The demonstrators warned of launching tougher programmes if the demands of the protesting Kuet students are not met.
Musaddiq urged universities in Khulna to barricade Kuet if necessary and called on educational institutions across the country to stage protests in solidarity with the Kuet students tomorrow.
He added that the next programme would be announced after discussions with relevant stakeholders.
