Students lock BU VC’s office, demand resignation

A group of Barishal University students locked and sealed the office of its Vice-Chancellor Professor Suchita Sharmin last evening.
Additionally, the nameplate in front of her office was removed.
Sujoy Shuvo, coordinator of the university Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, said, "The vice-chancellor has supported individuals identified as allies of the autocratic regime and has not cooperated with the university administration.
"Furthermore, she has failed to take initiatives to engage with students. The students had issued an ultimatum for her resignation, but when she ignored it, they proceeded to lock her office."
Earlier, students held a meeting on Wednesday, setting a deadline of 12 noon on Thursday for the VC to resign. However, after she failed to comply, the students locked her office and raised slogans demanding her resignation.
The students also claimed that all development work at the university has come to a standstill during her tenure.
When asked, Pro-VC Professor Golam Rabbani, said, "I have heard about the incident."
Professor Suchita Sharmin, from the Development Studies Department at Dhaka University, was appointed as the fifth and first female VC of Barishal University.
